Three Golf Improvement Mindsets to Takes Into This Golf Season with Justin Klemballa
Every golfer knows that feeling when the weather finally starts warming up, the clubs come back out of storage, and the summer golf goals start rolling in. Whether it’s breaking the 90 round, stopping blowing up on the back nine, or maybe just surviving a round without three-putting, whatever it might be, we all want to improve our game somewhere.
That’s why in this latest episode of T-Time with Tori Totlis, we sit down with PGA pro Justin Klemballa, fresh off a trip to the Masters, to learn about his proven P.A.R. Method and how you can use it to achieve your goals!
Inside the Masters experience
We kick this week’s episode off by learning a little about what it’s like attending the Masters as a PGA member. From finally deciding to make the trip to scrambling for accommodation, Justin takes us through the entire experience… and yes, the legends about Augusta are true!
One of the most interesting parts of the conversation is hearing how different the Masters feels compared to modern sporting events. There are only a handful of sponsors, no giant advertisements plastered around the course, and traditions that have remained untouched for decades. Justin also shares what it was like watching the pressure of a major championship golf unfold in person, particularly during the dramatic battle involving Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.
The golf mindset most players get wrong
Once the Masters conversation wraps up, the episode shifts into something every golfer can relate to: why improvement often feels harder than it should.
- “You have to really have a positive picture about yourself, and believe that you are actually capable of achieving that goal that you want to achieve.”
Justin introduces the framework he teaches inside his Breaking Bogeys coaching program, the P.A.R. Method. This proven structure has helped hundreds of golfers, and we get an exclusive insight into its process, allowing you to transform your game this summer!
We begin with the “P”, which stands for picture, and according to Justin, it may be the most important part of improving your golf game. He explains that most golfers spend far too much time replaying their mistakes, while completely ignoring the good shots and solid holes they actually played during the round.
- “You can think yourself into better golf as much as you want, but if you’re not actually doing the work, you’re not going to get better.”
Justin shares a personal story about shooting one of the worst tournament rounds of his career because he became consumed with worrying about what other golfers thought of him. But what he did afterward completely changed the way he approached performance and confidence. Instead of replaying the disaster holes in his mind, he focused only on the successful holes before his next tournament. The result? A dramatically better round the next time he teed it up.
The “A” stands for acting with consistency, and this section of the episode is packed with practical advice for golfers who genuinely want to lower their scores this summer. Justin makes the case that improvement has less to do with marathon range sessions and more to do with short, focused practice done consistently throughout the week.
One of the biggest takeaways is how little elite players actually focus on full swing practice compared to short game and putting. Justin references a Division I college golf practice breakdown showing that roughly 75% of practice time is spent on putting, chipping, pitching, and bunker shots.
The final part of the episode focuses on the “R”: reviewing feedback. Justin explains that golfers often stay stuck because they continue repeating the same mistakes without making meaningful adjustments, giving an example of using foot spray on the clubface during practice to immediately identify strike patterns.
- “You find out what you’re doing wrong, and you do the opposite to find the happy medium.”
Start elevating your game!
Between the Augusta stories, the mindset advice, and the practical strategies for lowering scores, this episode is the perfect listen for golfers getting ready for the season ahead. So before you head out for your next round, give it a listen:
