How to Use Alignment Sticks

beginner golfers golf drills golf tips and tricks

We’ve all been there. Lazily approaching a training day on a chilly morning with no intention of using our alignment sticks. Unfortunately, this means that we’ll be missing out on opportunities for training and growing as a golfer. And truthfully, there’s no excuse for not leveraging alignment tools while we train - they’re effective and impactful to our development! Trust us when we say you’ll be glad you got into the habit of using them.

Not sure where or how to start? Here are our top three tips for honing in on your aim and utilizing alignment sticks:

Tip #1: Utilize Two Sticks: One for Target, One for Feet

While many people opt for a single alignment stick while practicing, we recommend using two. One can be used to line up to your target and create a visual path for you to practice with, and the other should fall somewhere between that stick and your feet - laid parallel to the other - to be referenced for foot alignment.

Tip #2: Reference the Target Visually From Golf Posture

Once you’ve set these up and get into proper golfing posture, you’ll take a look at the target from this position in order to train for perfect alignment on the course. Pay attention to what each practice shot looks like in proper posture with proper alignment in order to bring these visual cues to your game.

Tip #3: Use Alignment Sticks Every Time, No Excuses

Take the guesswork out of your game by establishing consistent, good aim with alignment sticks. In using them, you’ll learn to be consistent in your aim, alignment, and swing. Using alignment sticks allows you to take the guesswork out of your golf game. If you line up for your shot using alignment sticks, and miss right or left, you now know it was your swing, not your alignment. This is why it’s crucial to practice with sticks and avoid excuses.
