Etiquette & Pet Peeves with Diane Lucas

beginner golfers golf tips and tricks on the course

In today’s post, Tori welcomes her long-term friend, an attorney, and a long-time golfer, Diane. Diane has been playing golf since she was 16 and is still going strong even during her professional career. In the interview, Diane shed light on her journey, from playing for the Arizona States University golf team, how she shifted her focus to become an attorney, coming back to play golf, 15 years later, and eventually joining the Ladies’ League in Arizona.

The Takeaways

Diane’s golf experience at ASU

  • It was an amazing experience as the University recruited the team from all over, she was fortunate to play for the incredible coach, Linda Vollstedt.
  • Had the opportunity to practice with big names like Heather Farr, Missy Farr-Kaye, and Scott Watkins.
  • Every single person that played on the ASU women’s team during the four years she played became a pro, apart from her and one other girl.
  • She put her golf career on hold for three years and became an attorney. She later started playing again but just the client's golf. She then didn’t play for the next 15 years.
  • After her retirement, she started playing again in Arizona, joining the Ladies’ League.
  • Playing the Ladies League was more intense for her than playing at ASU because she was not practicing like she used to. Besides, at ASU, they used to play as a team.

Teaching etiquette at a golf course

  • Being the “etiquette coach” to Sarah at the golf course, Diane gives advice to young and scared golfers that they should always be ready when it’s their turn.
  • If you’re ready, you’re aware of everything that’s going on.
  • Being ready means you’re ready to putt. When it’s your turn, you’re ready to go. It means doing your homework and knowing what club you need.
