Beginner Golf Series: Where to Stand on the Tee Box

beginner golfers golf tips and tricks

The last thing we want to do is disrupt our playing partners while they are swinging. We can also distract them during their set-up just from where we are standing!

Here are some tips on where to stand when your group is on the tee box.

Tip #1: Always watch where your shadow is.

We all have a little friend following us around on sunny days. And in those early morning tee times, it might be challenging to get the shadow out of the way of your playing partners vision. Ideally, we want out shadow nowhere near our playing partners ball, line of their putt or forward vision.

Tip #2: Don't stand right behind the player who is hitting their shot.

This goes for golf carts too. Don't park behind someone when they are getting ready to hit their shot. I know that sometimes its easier to track the ball if you are directly behind them but it is highly distracting. If you are parked behind someone because you just hit your shot, give them a heads up that you are going to move so that they don't rush.

Tip #3: Beware of where their backswing is.

When the cart path is located on the left side of the tee box, standing on their back side might be the only option. This will happen a lot with left-handed golfers too. When standing on the back side of a golfer getting ready to hit, be aware of their back swing. Even if you know you won't get hit by the club, it can still be distracting to your playing partner if they know you are pretty close.

Tip #4: The best place to stand is in the back right corner of a right-handed golfer or the back left corner of a left-handed golfer.

Let's be real about this.... when I am in my golf stance getting ready to swing, I'd rather not have anyone right behind me looking at my BUTT the whole time! I always try to stand and park the cart of the forward side of the player's body, steering clear of their backside and their peripheral vision.
