What's for Dinner? Mixing Up the Teriyaki Bowl

food & drink

Whenever I think of making a teriyaki bowl, I always revert back to using grilled chicken. But I saw on Pinterest the other day that people were using ground turkey as their meat instead. So I tested it out and it did not disappoint!

For a time-saving point, I would of used a store bought teriyaki but I didn't have any. So I made the teriyaki sauce minus the cornstarch because I didn't have that either... ugh. I can see how the cornstarch would of helped thicken the sauce but it was totally fine without it. All the other ingredients I had in my pantry.

Click HERE to see the sauce recipe - very easy to make in about 5 minutes.

I grounded the turkey, cooked the rice in a rice cooker and blanched the broccoli in boiling water. Prep time was about 20 minutes and then it was ready to eat when the rice was completed.

Of note: The recipe called for shredded carrots but I didn't have those in the house but I added toasted slivered almonds instead for crunch value. I also let the ground turkey sit on low on the stove in the sauce for about 15 minutes while I was waiting for the rice to finish.
