Keep Your Focus: Chipping Drill

golf drills golf routines

I went out to practice yesterday with one goal in mind.... just finish it. I had about an hour to get a session in and honestly, I wanted to stay home.

Instead, I put on my golf clothes and headed out to the practice facilities. Like working out, getting into my golf clothes usually helps me get moving. We all know that getting to the range (or gym) is the hardest part.

I putted first because I always putt first. Then I headed over to the chipping area. Still feeling a little antsy, I cleared off the green and made three piles of balls that were approximately 5, 10 and 15 paces off the green. Using only my 60 degree, I proceeded to hit one ball from each pile to the closest target. I then moved back to the pile that was 5 paces off the green, switched targets and hit one ball from each pile of balls to the middle target. Then I repeated that process.

I named this drill "Keep Your Focus" because it calmed me down and I was able to start focusing on what I was actually doing instead of thinking about not wanting to be there. This is one of the prime examples of why a practice plan has helped me stay consistent with training. Without a plan, I can talk myself out of anything. But if I know what I need to get done, I can go to the practice facility with my head down and just do it.
