Today, Tori is excited to host an engaging conversation with two regulars on the podcast, Tara Bateman, and Kim Eaton, as they share their perspectives on golf updates and summer goals. As we gear up for the summer season, there is no better time to talk about this beloved sport that has captured the hearts of so many. Whether you are a fan of the game or an aspiring golfer yourself, this discussion promises to be informative and inspiring. So, let's tee off and get started!

The Arizona Four-Ball Championship

The Arizona Four-Ball Championship is one of the most highly anticipated golf events of the year! Held annually in the beautiful state of Arizona, this tournament is a showcase of skill and teamwork as golfers from across the country compete in a two-person, best-ball format. With its stunning desert landscapes, challenging course layouts, and ideal weather conditions, Arizona is the perfect backdrop for this exciting competition.

The Ladies’ Expectations from the Arizona Four-Ball Championship

Tara and Kim are gearing up for the Arizona Four-Ball Championship, and have different approaches to their pre-tournament preparations. Tara's main expectation is not to disappoint, and she plans to focus on chipping and putting to get into a rhythm before the event. Kim, on the other hand, prefers to play regularly at her home course, Apache Wells, rather than practice rounds. She finds that she often plays well in practice and doesn't want to waste it. Despite their different strategies, both Tara and Kim are excited to compete in this highly anticipated golf event and are looking forward to giving it their all.

Pre-round Routines

Tara and Kim have their own pre-round routines when it comes to golf. For example, Kim likes to hit nine balls with her pitching wedge through seven iron, and Tara takes a bit more time, hitting a few drivers and working on her short game. Both agree on the importance of arriving early to the course to avoid feeling rushed and giving their bodies time to prepare. Though Tara admits to sometimes trunk slamming it, she's consciously trying to change her routine and be more present. While Kim doesn't do any stretching in the morning, she does make sure to arrive an hour early to feel prepared and get everything done before hitting off the first tee.

The Arizona Senior Open

The Arizona Senior Open is a golf tournament that was added to the Marilyn Smith ProAm event last year. It is a 54-hole stroke play event with a cut, and professionals will earn prize money while amateurs will receive gift certificates.

1.   Eligibility:

All professionals and amateurs aged 50 years or older by May 8, 2023, are eligible to participate in the championship. Contestants are required to manage their own starting times and groupings. Once finalized, starting times and groupings will be posted online, emailed to all participants, and made available by contacting the host facility.

2.   Starting Time & Groupings

It is the responsibility of the contestants to be aware of their starting times and groupings. The finalized starting times and groupings will be posted online and sent to all players via email. Additionally, contestants can also obtain their starting times by contacting the host facility.

3.   Dress Code:

In this championship, participants are allowed to wear either slacks or suitable golf shorts. However, cargo shorts are deemed unsuitable for golf attire.

4.   Cash Prize:

If any amateur player manages to win a cash prize, they can receive a maximum of $1000. However, it needs to be clarified whether the prize would be in cash or not. The tournament is a partner tournament with the best ball format for both days.

Step-wise on Becoming a Caddy

To become a caddy:

  1. Find a summer and winter spot, usually at private golf clubs.
  2. You don't need to know a lot about golf, but you'll pick it up by being on the course every day.
  3. If you don't know something, just say so, or "fake it till you make it."
  4. A big piece of advice is to recommend the right club to amateur players, usually two clubs up.
  5. Usually, caddies start as forecaddies, and some golf courses have programs for them.
  6. Start by cleaning clubs and working at a semi-private or private golf course.
  7. Play the course on your off-time and talk to the pro to find caddying opportunities with members.

Summer Goals for the Ladies

Kim has her eyes set on The Senior Women's Open, which has qualifiers at Papago. She plans to participate in the qualifiers and hopes to qualify for the tournament. Her ultimate goal is to play at Waverly, as she has fond memories of the course from previous tournaments. Tara is considering signing up for the Utah-Arizona Shootout and hopes to earn enough points to represent Arizona. Meanwhile, Tori's goal is to win an individual event, as it's been a while since she's won one. She's planning to show up to all the events she's signed up for and see how she does. The three women have different goals, but they're all aiming to perform their best and achieve success in their golfing endeavors.
