Taking the Mystery Out of Establishing a Handicap Index

Tony Robbins 5-day Mastery Program

  • Behind the scenes of our golfing activities, we will be attending Tony Robbins' 5-day mastery program for our business side of things.
  • This event is going to be a game-changer for us. When Tori started this journey years ago, she was going to such events and conferences and she thought that one day, she will go to a Tony Robbins event.
  • Sarah, during her early 20s, had nicknamed herself Tony Robbins. She has always been really positive and has always strived to make her days better.

“I have always had a voice that says make it a great day instead of “have a great day.” You can't just have a great day. You need to make it a great day” - Sarah Held

  • While some people don’t understand the investment and returns for such events, it’s a personal thing. Some people may not get anything out of it. And that’s fine. Everyone learns and gets motivated differently.

The Desert Classic Tournament

  • The Desert Classic Golf Tournament is set to begin in March 2022 and is already sold out!
  • On the planning side of things, Sarah’s Elite Golf Experience is ready to help you with the plannings, from air tickets, hotels, meals, transportation, and everything in between that will make your golf tournament a memorable experience.
  • Literally, everything is taken care of on the retreat-side of things, including music! So you just have to play the sport that you love!

Music or no music on the golf course?

  • For Tori, she only listens to music when practicing. She says it helps her relax and get in the zone.
  • But when it’s time to compete on the golf course, she likes it quiet so that she can just focus more on the next shot and also strategize.
  • On the other hand, Sarah says she likes it more on the golf course when competing because it helps her not to think too much.

The Handicap Talk

The biggest question we get in general in women’s golf, especially women that have been playing for a little bit, usually just with their family or friends, and not keeping the scores, is that they keep hearing this word, “handicap.” What is it? And where can they get it? Here’s a brief explanation of where to get it.

  • A handicap is just a score that helps you keep track of your performance based on your previous stats.

5 Steps to Getting a GHIN Handicap!

STEP ONE:

In order to establish a handicap, you need to obtain a USGA GHIN number. You can only do this by joining one of the USGA’s authorized golf clubs.

STEP TWO:

Your local golf association is available to help you!

Click the link in my bio, scroll down and find your local Golf Association. For me, I am in Arizona so the Arizona Golf Association is who I would contact.

STEP THREE:

Call or email your local golf association and say, “I’m looking to join an online club that will enable me to establish a handicap via GHIN.”

STEP FOUR:

Sign up for the eClub (or another golf club) that the Association suggests.

It is important to note that they might suggest an actual club/league for you to join if that is something that might interest you.

For example, I belong to the Papago WGA which is a ladies league at a public course. My league membership includes a GHIN handicap through the Arizona Golf Association.

STEP FIVE:

Once you have your GHIN number, you can start posting scores using the GHIN app!

What’s Next?

Once you post three 18- hole scores or six 9-holes scores, GHIN will compute your handicap index.

Tori and Sarah complete the show by doing a recap for the latest episode of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. They talk about recent drama in the show, the boys’ golf outing and who they think is the best golfer, and what they also expect from future episodes.
